Project Current Status

A new Supreme Committee to oversee the development of Hatta has been established. The committee is chaired by the commissioner-general for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being Track. Other members of the committee include the managing director and CEO of Dewa; the director-general of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; the director-general of Dubai Municipality; the director-general of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority’ the CEO of Engineering Office; as well as representatives from the General Secretariat of The Executive Council of Dubai and the RTA. The committee serves for a renewable period of three years. (January 2022)

Project History
  • DEWA has invited consultants to submit proposals by 23 July, 2019 for the contract to provide a feasibility study for a wind power project at Hatta. (June 2019)

  • Bids have been submitted for the feasibility study tender on a wind power project. The bidders are: Electricity De France, Gopa International Energy Consultants Gmbh LLC, Innogy International Middle East LLC, Tractebel Engineering S.A (Dubai Br), TUV Rheinland Middle East FZE, Velosi Certification Services LLC. TUV Rheinland Middle East FZE, headquartered Germany, has submitted the lowest bid offer of AED2.01mn ($547,000). (August 2019)
  • Dewa is conducting a feasibility study to develop a 28 MW wind farm in the Hatta area of the emirate. Using preliminary data, Dubai has identified an area in Hatta to develop the UAE’s first wind farm, which is expected to have a capacity of 28 MW. The site has been selected following wind studies and field visits, with actual wind speed currently being measured for a full year using a 150m tower. The study will enable Dewa to assess the total capacity of the wind farm and technical elements such as number of turbines and average annual operating hours. (August 2021)
