Project History
  • Al-Yasat Petroleum Operations Company of Abu Dhabi has launched a design and build competition for the new oil production facilities worth almost $1 billion at the Belbazen oil field in Abu Dhabi. The front-end engineering and design (FEED) tender was launched in early September. In this FEED competition, three entities will be selected to compete with three designs and the successful feed contractor will then execute the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract next year. Companies that have been invited to bid include: China Petroleum Construction Company of China / Technip of France, Larsen & Toubro of India, Mcdermott of US, National Petroleum Construction Company of Abu Dhabi, and Saipem of Italy. (September 2018)
  • 3 groups have been selected for a design and build competition for the new oil production facilities worth almost $1bn. The competing groups include: China Petroleum Construction Company / TechnipFMC, Mcdermott, National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) / Petrofac. From the three FEED proposals submitted by above companies, one will be chosen and taken on to the EPC phase. The selection is expected to be made by July, 2019. (February 2019)
  • The consortium of National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) of Abu Dhabi and Petrofac of UK has confirmed being selected for the FEED on the Belbazem Block Development Project, which consists of three oil-bearing structures: Belbazem, Umm Al Salsal, and Umm Al Dholou. The scope of work includes the submission of a FEED package and proposal for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the facilities, with the execution of the EPCI work to be awarded on a design competition basis. (August 2019)
  • Al-Yasat has awarded a general engineering, project management and technical support services contract worth $39 million to SNC-Lavalin of Canada. The 3-year contract scope includes conceptual studies and design, front-end engineering and design (Feed), execution planning, detailed engineering for small works and specialized studies. SNC-Lavalin will support Al Yasat in managing sub-contracts, procurement services and market surveys. Covering two concession areas in Abu Dhabi, Al Yasat drives effective and efficient exploration and development of new areas, onshore and offshore. The onshore concession area is located to the southwest of Abu Dhabi and measures 7,800 sq km, while the offshore concession area is located to the northwest of Abu Dhabi and covers six fields with a total area of 582 sq km. (September 2019)
  • Technical and commercial proposals have been submitted. Evaluation of bids are currently ongoing. It is understood that the EPCI package will cover a wellhead platform and a pipeline. Three EPCI contractors, NPCC-Petrofac joint venture (JV) partners, Saipem and McDermott, were awarded contracts for a FEED competition. The competition involves the submission of FEED as well as an EPCI proposal. (December 2019)
  • The bid evaluation is underway and the main contractor is yet to be appointed. (April 2020)
  • The main contract is not yet awarded and the time frame is unknown for the same. (December 2020)
  • National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has been emerged as the frontrunner for the FEED-to-EPC contract, wherein the FEED proposal will be chosen and taken on to the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase. (April 2021)
  • The $744 million EPC contract to fully develop the offshore Belbazem block has been awarded to National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) of Abu Dhabi. NPCC's scope of work includes installing three offshore wellhead towers, one in each of the three fields. Laying interconnecting subsea pipelines and cables to Zirku Island, located 60km from Belbazem field are also part of the scope. NPCC is also required to undertake the development of greenfield facilities for water injection, produced water treatment, gas compression, associated utilities as well as brownfield works for tie-in to existing facilities at Zirku Island. (May 2021)
  • NPCC is in talks with CPECC for the subcontract works. (July 2021)
  • NPCC has invited bids by 15 August, 2021 for MEIC and Pipe spooling works. (August 2021)
  • Tracerco, part of Johnson Matthey Plc, has been awarded a contract by NPCC to deliver its Profiler™ instrumentation to the Belbazem offshore block. NPCC manage the full-field development, of the Belbazem offshore block. Tracerco’s Profiler™ is set to be installed by September this year into the slug catcher vessel, which provides a buffer volume to accommodate the intermittent high liquid flow in the form of a slug. Slug catchers, separators and storage vessels help to protect valuable production equipment from major bursts of liquid entering the gas stream. (July 2022)
