Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) wants to change the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipelines from Contai to Paradip and Dattapulia for optimal utilization of all possible sources of natural gas. IOCL authorities believe that the change will also help in catering to various demand centres in Odisha and West Bengal.
It is planning to set up a four-million-metric-ton-per-annum LNG floating storage and re-gasification unit offshore Haldia.
The proposed pipeline from Contai will reach Haipur in West Bengal and then move towards Paradip in Odisha with spur lines to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Another pipeline will also move to Dattapulia in Nadia with spur lines to Haldia, Kolaghat, Uluberia and Kolkata. "In the proposed pipeline route only one gas source has been considered. But, other gas sources also exist in the vicinity, connecting which will integrate the network and give option to customers to receive gas supply from multiple sources," stated IOCL.
