The United States of America (USA) is keen to participate in the expansion project of Numaligarh Refinery, the company said.
The Assam-based refinery of state-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation plans to invest Rs 200 billion to increase its refining capacity to 9 million metric tons per annum from 3 mmtpa.
Jonathan Ward, US Consulate General's principal commercial officer for eastern & northeastern India, visited Numaligarh Refinery's corporate office along with a delegation in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Officials of the US consulate showed keen interest in NRL's proposed refinery expansion project and the possibility of equity participation by American companies, the refinery said in a statement on Wednesday.
NRL also suggested to the team to look into the possibility of US collaboration in opening up marginal oilfields in upper Assam. United States Ambassador to India Richard Verma visited Assam as part of his familiarisation tour of India and interacted with regional business leaders at a programme hosted by Indian Chamber of Commerce - North East Chapter.
