A coal gas-based ammonia and urea fertiliser project is set to come up at Talcher in Orissa. This is a joint venture between GAIL, Coal India, Fertiliser Corp, and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers. The JV will be headed by GAIL.
The coal gas-based ammonia and urea fertiliser project will be built at the closed unit of Fertiliser Corp at Talcher.
The fertiliser project will be developed on a turnkey basis following zeroing on a technology developed by Shell Global. The project will be taken up by the appraisal committee of the environment ministry later this month, after which the turnkey contractor for the project will be selected in July 2017.
The government conceived the project consisting of 2,200 tonne day ammonia and 3,850 tonne a day of neem-coated urea capacity at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore.
