Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) is offering business opportunities worth of $400 million for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at its $6.5 billion-Liwa Plastics Industries Complex, said a report.
These business opportunities, including sub-contracting works, will be awarded by four main contractors who have won these packages as part of in-country value (ICV) obligation, added the report.
The local SMEs are expected to greatly benefit from the business opportunities (which include sub-contracting works, purchase orders, and support services) available from major contracting firms.
Ibrahim Al Maamari, ICV manager at Orpic, said that the value of the first EPC package is $2.8 billion and a 10 per cent of this contract (equivalent to $280 million) will be available for SMEs.
He further added that the same will be applied to the remaining three packages, which will amount to businesses worth of $400 million for SMEs.
Al Maamari noted that the company has been conducting inter-active workshops between the main contractors and potential small and medium enterprises to help small units to get business from these projects.
