Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Phase-I of the fourth container terminal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to the nation on 18 February 2018.
The total cost of the project is Rs 7,915 crore. This is the largest container terminal in the country. The Phase-I of the project has been completed in a record time.
The fourth container terminal is the largest FDI in Indian infrastructure. JNPT now has three international container terminal operators along with its own terminal.
The new fourth terminal has a capacity of 2.4 million TEU in Phase-I. Once Phase-II of the project is completed in 2022, the capacity of JNPT will be 10 million TEU. This will make JNPT the 33rd biggest port globally.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in October 2015.
