RIL's Gujarat Plant to Begin Production of Green Hydrogen by 2025

Reliance Industries (RIL) is stepping up efforts to lay down infrastructure for disbursing green hydrogen from its proposed plant in Gujarat, which is expected to begin production of the fuel by 2025. The company is tying up with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for supply of green hydrogen.

RIL also plans to retail green hydrogen through its Jio-BP retail outlets, with its existing network of around 1,500 retail outlets, which are planned for a further expansion to 5,000. It aims to produce green hydrogen at USD one per kg by 2030.

The Mukesh Ambani-led company, which is investing USD 10 billion in capex to build its new energy ecosystem, has received 74,750 hectares of land parcel in Gujarat on a 40-year lease for its green hydrogen project.

In July, 2023 RIL collaborated with Bharat Benz for an intercity luxury concept coach powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology. Also, in February, 2023 RIL and Ashok Leyland unveiled India’s first hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) technology solution for trucks.

These vehicles will undergo validation and safety trials in the next 12 months.
