In accordance with the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayan Abdul-Ghani, the Ministry of Oil continues to implement its strategy aimed at developing national refineries and enhancing the production of petroleum derivatives.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Refining Affairs, Mr. Adnan Mohammed Hamoud, emphasized that the government supports the development of the refining sector, given its pivotal role in achieving self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports. He emphasized the need to expedite the completion of civil works and laying foundations according to the specified timelines, while working on a two-shift system to ensure rapid implementation.
This came during his visit, today, Wednesday, to the Maysan Refinery to follow up on the project to establish a new refining unit at the refinery with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day. The Undersecretary indicated that the implementation of the project will contribute to raising the refinery's production capacity to (110) thousand barrels per day, enhancing the Ministry's ability to meet the needs of Maysan Governorate and neighboring governorates for petroleum derivatives.
The Undersecretary held an expanded meeting attended by the Director General of the Technical Department, Mr. Hassanein Abdel Latif, who accompanied him on the visit, as well as the Director of the Studies Department in the Economic Department, the Ministry's Director of Resources, the Director of the Refinery, and a number of engineering staff. Mechanisms for accelerating implementation were discussed according to a specific timetable, ensuring the achievement of the project's set objectives.
