Project Current Status

Ewec has awarded a contract to a team of EDF Renewables of France and Korea Western Power Company (Kowepo) for the planned 1.5 GW solar power project to be developed in the Ajban region of Abu Dhabi. The EDF-led team submitted the lowest levelized electricity cost of 5.1921 fils a kilowatt-hour (kWh) or about 1.413 $cents/kWh for the contract. (March 2024)

Project Scope

The project scope involves the construction of 1.5 GW PV solar power project in the Ajban region of Abu Dhabi.

 

The Ajban PV project will be developed under an independent power producer (IPP) model and will be Abu Dhabi’s third utility-scale solar plant and will generate enough electricity for about 160,000 homes across the UAE. The plant will reduce Abu Dhabi’s carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tonnes a year.

 

The contract scope covers construction of the solar PV power plant, installation of solar panels of PV modules, construction of control rooms, operating building and associated facilities. 

 

The successful developer in the tendering process will hold a 40 percent stake in the special purpose vehicle established to develop and operate the plant.
