Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer One, a subsidiary of Indian renewable energy firm Adani Green Energy (AGEL), has commissioned a 390 MW hybrid power generation plant in Rajasthan, India.
Located in Jaisalmer, the facility is understood to be the first wind-solar hybrid power plant in the country.
AGEL managing director and CEO Vneet Jaain said: “Wind-solar hybrid energy is an important aspect of our business strategy, which aims to meet India’s growing need for green energy.
“The commissioning of our hybrid plant is an incremental step towards meeting India’s sustainable energy goals.
“We are extremely proud of the unrelenting effort our team has put in to deliver India’s first wind-solar hybrid plant.
“This project is a part of the first construction facility by international banks in Adani Green.
“It is commendable that the project was successfully executed amidst the uncertainties imposed by the global pandemic.”
The hybrid solar facility has a power purchase agreement (PPA) in place with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
Under the PPA, power will be delivered at a tariff of Rs 2.69 ($0.04) for each kilowatt-hour, which is said to be well below the average power procurement cost (APPC) at the national level.
The hybrid power plant’s commissioning increases AGEL’s operational capacity to 5.8 GW.
The project also increases the company’s total renewable portfolio to 20.4 GW, putting it ‘well on track’ to meet its target of installing 45 GW by 2030.
Earlier this month, Adani Group announced a Rs 600bn investment in two green energy projects in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The company will develop a 10 GW solar power project and a 3,700 MV hydropower storage project under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh state government.
The two projects are expected to create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and support the state’s industrialization efforts.
