Iraq Resumes Anbar Combined Cycle Power Plant

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadimi lays the foundation stone for the 1.6 GW Anbar Combined Cycle Power Plant Project in Al-Furat Street, Anbar Province.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Al-Kadhimi said that the combined cycle power plant will help provide additional power capacity to the grid system, thereby increasing production levels and providing better services to the citizens of Anbar.

Construction works on the power plant project began in 2013, but the project was later suspended when Islamic State seized control of Al-Anbar governorate. The project is 55 percent completed.

The Anbar Combined Cycle Power Plant will have a total capacity of 1,642 megawatts and cost $1.5 billion. The project will take three years to complete. It consists of 4 GT26 gas-fired units with a single unit capacity of 273 MW, and 2 steam units with a capacity of 275 MW each.
