Ministries of Iraq and Iran to Form Joint Energy Committee

The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil affirmed Iraq's keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of oil and energy and to work to expand and develop opportunities and horizons for bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries. This came during the joint meeting between the Ministries of Oil of Iraq and Iran.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil said that the meeting emphasized the depth of the historical relations between the two neighboring countries, and the influential role of both Iraq and Iran in OPEC and in global markets, as they stand at the forefront of oil and gas producing countries.

 

The Minister of Oil referred to the agreement with his Iranian counterpart, Mr. Jawad Oji, to form specialized committees to enhance and expand opportunities for joint cooperation... including... a committee to develop the common border fields between the two sides, in accordance with international contexts and norms that guarantee the rights of each party. And the Joint Cooperation Committee in the field of gas investment and assembly, petrochemical industries, and renewable energy.

 

The Refinery Rehabilitation and Development Committee, and the Joint Training and Development Committee, in addition to work and cooperation in the fields of oil marketing, drilling, supply of pipes and reserve materials, oil exploration, and others.

 

The joint meeting also included the signing of a memorandum of joint cooperation in the field of training and development, which was signed by the Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Bassem Muhammad Khudair, with his Iranian counterpart.

 

Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani arrived in Iran last week, on an official visit during which he met with a number of officials in the government and the Iranian Ministry of Oil.

 

The delegation included the Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, the Director-General of the Basra Oil Company, the Director-General of the Maysan Oil Company, the Director-General of the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company, the Director-General of the Oil Projects Company, the Director-General of the Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up, the Director of the Research and Development Center, and the Director of the Minister’s Office.
