ONGC to Submit FDP for Second Deepest HC Discovery by 2026

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is expected to submit the field development plan (FDP) for the world’s second deepest hydrocarbon discovery in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin by January 2026.

The firm operates block KG-DWN-98/2, comprising Cluster I, II & III. Cluster-III has one ultra-deepwater gas discovery, which would be the second deepest hydrocarbon discovery in the world when monetized. The FDP is scheduled to be submitted by January 2026. This was stated by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli.

The Minister further said that after the discoveries are made in any block, the operator is required to submit FDP for approval by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH). After this, it will commence production facility development followed by testing and commercial production.

Cluster-I consists of three discoveries. FDPs of two discoveries were approved in 2019. This project is currently in the development stage. In Cluster II, commercial production from one gas field has already commenced from March, 2020 and commercial production of crude oil is scheduled for May 2024. The project is likely to achieve full completion by 2024.

KG-DWN-98/2 block is an offshore project and has faced issues in actual project implementation such as sub-surface geological issues, shifting of well locations and surface facilities/processing platform, and others.
