BPCL Finalizes Firm to Prepare DPR for bio-CNG

BPCL has finally zeroed in on an agency to prepare a detailed project report for the proposed bio-CNG plant at Brahmapuram. BPCL sources said it has given a purchase order to Gurugram-based Airox Agency for DPR preparation and to oversee the construction of the plant till its commissioning.

It was one of the six agencies quoted in the tender floated by the public sector undertaking for setting up the plant. The agency had provided project management consultancy services for a city gas project of GAIL in Ranchi, among other things.

Meanwhile, officials said the CNG generated from the Brahmapuram plant will be used for the company’s internal usage. “We will mix it with LNG to use it for our boilers. The Kochi Corporation has asked us to prepare a project report giving an option for expansion in the future. It said if the need arises, waste from nearby local bodies will be transported to Brahmapuram for the project,” said a BPCL official.

The official said for generating CNG for public sale, a minimum of 500 tonnes of organic waste has to be supplied per day at Brahmapuram. “Besides, a lot of infrastructure needs to be set up for purifying the CNG before selling it to the public. It is not feasible at the current availability of the waste. If we get 500 tonnes of biowaste per day, we can think about selling CNG to the public by setting up the required infrastructure,” said the official.
