The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs confirmed that the Nasiriyah and Gharraf gas field investment project has entered an advanced implementation phase, with the actual installation of specialized equipment at the project site commencing after its complete arrival. This is being done in cooperation with the international company Baker Hughes, in accordance with the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs, Mr. Izzat Saber Ismail, stated that the project is considered one of the Ministry's top strategic priorities. He noted that its investment capacity is estimated at approximately 200 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, which will be utilized gradually according to the approved designs. This will enhance fuel supplies to the national grid and support the stability of the energy system.
The Undersecretary explained that work is proceeding according to the planned schedules, and that the initial operation of the project is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. The Ministry and the South Gas Company are committed to completing all technical and construction requirements within this timeframe. He added that the project will directly contribute to reducing the flaring of associated gas, lowering environmental emissions, and maximizing the use of national resources, which will positively impact the national economy and the clean energy and electricity sector in Iraq.
