NTPC to Install 20 GW RE Capacity for Manufacturing Green Hydrogen

NTPC will install a total of 20 GW RE capacity, comprising 13.4 GW of solar power and 6.6 GW of pumped storage project (PSP), which will be utilized for manufacturing green hydrogen through electrolysis.

 

The power major is setting up a more than Rs 1 lakh crore green hydrogen hub in coastal Andhra Pradesh. For the hydrogen hub, a land parcel at Pudimadaka, 50 km from Visakhapatnam, has been allotted by the AP Industrial Investment Corporation (APIIC), and the project is expected to be completed by 2030, with the first half likely by 2026-27.

 

The project is planned over 1,200 acres, and will feature an industrial area and a hydrogen hub of 600 acres each. A detailed project report (DPR) on the park is in the preparation stage. The industrial area will have manufacturing facilities for new energy technologies including electrolyzers, fuel cells, batteries, solar modules, wind turbine equipment, and carbon capture systems.

 

Further, the Genco expects to ink pacts with domestic and foreign entities to set up a 1,500 tpd capacity, and 1,300 tpd green ammonia and 1,200 tpd of green methanol manufacturing facilities. The hub will focus on exporting green hydrogen and green methanol in South Asia region, and also to the UK, if talks materialize.

 

NTPC has transferred all its green energy projects to NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), to tap into future growth opportunities in clean energy including a range of technology, products and services.
