Shipping Ministry Approves Rs 123cr Oil Jetty Project at Kandla Port

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has approved a project for development of an oil jetty at Deendayal Port, Kandla in Gujarat, on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis under the PPP mode. The estimated cost of developing the oil jetty will be Rs 123.40 crore.

The oil jetty will handle all types of liquid cargo at Kandla, and enhance the cargo handling capacity, attributed to the reduction in turn-around time of liquid vessels.

The construction period is estimated to be 24 months while the concession period will span a period of 30 years. The project will follow a revenue sharing model of royalty per tonne. The concessionaire will arrange the financing for the project.

Nearly 70 percent of the cargo handled at Kandla is evacuated by road, while 10 percent by rail, and the remaining 20 percent is through pipeline. In FY23, Deendayal Port, Kandla handled 137.56 mln tonne of cargo, and by 2030, the port is expected to double its cargo handling to 267mn tonne, or an annual growth rate of 10 per cent.

The Ministry has already identified 74 projects worth Rs 57,000 crore under the Sagarmala programme in Gujarat, wherein 15 projects worth Rs 9,000 crore have been completed, with another 33 projects worth more than Rs 25,000 crore are under implementation.
