Kuwait Set to Select Consultant for Shuaiba Power Plant Privatization

OPEC oil producer Kuwait is expected soon to select a consultant from among three companies vying for a contract to privatize its Shuaiba power plant.

The three global firms were among several companies that submitted bids for the project in December and the contract is expected to be awarded in February or March, said “informed” sources.

Kuwait’s Supreme Privatisation Council (SPC) will select the winning bidder after obtaining approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT).

The sources affirmed that SPC will officially announce the winning bidder this month or in March at the latest.

Shuaiba plant, located in Alahmadi governorate, has a capacity of 875 megawatts and was built in 2010 by a consortia of foreign contractors, including General Electric of the US, South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Japan’s Mitsubishi Power.
