JOGMEC Inks MoU Extension with Oman for Cooperation in Clean Energy

Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) signed an extension of the Memorandandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), the Sultanate of Oman, for bilateral technical cooperation in the energy sector on December 27, 2022. The extended MOU includes collaboration towards commercial and technical issues relating to clean energy as a new field of cooperation.

Since JOGMEC and the Ministry of Oil and Gas (currently MEM), the Sultanate of Oman, signed the MOU for bilateral technical cooperation in the fields of oil and natural gas in 2014 and extended it in 2017 and 2020, both organizations have achieved a wide range of collaborations such as a keynote address by H.E. Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al Rumhy, the then Minister of Oil and Gas, at the JOGMEC Techno Forum 2015, technical workshops to solve challenges in the oil and natural gas sector and technical training programs.

As projects in carbon neutral areas such as green hydrogen are advancing in Oman, the extended MOU includes collaboration towards commercial and technical issues relating to clean energy in addition to traditional energy.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Oman. JOGMEC is pleased to strengthen the relationship between both countries through energy cooperation in this celebratory year.
