International Contractors Eye Saudi Arabia’s Construction Work

After the 2014-20 era of low oil prices and spending cuts, delegations of companies from overseas including Turkey and South Korea, are now travelling to Saudi Arabia looking for work. They are met with open arms as project clients in the Kingdom realize they cannot deliver their ambitions without a major ramp-up of the available contracting capacity in the kingdom.

More than $1tn of projects that Saudi Arabia is working on as part of its ambitious Vision 2030 programme, promises to overhaul the kingdom by diversifying its economy away from oil and gas.

The $500bn Neom development in the northwest of the kingdom challenges conventional norms about urban living and throws down the gauntlet to a construction industry that is both enthused and skeptical about the scale of the opportunity that the project creates.
