Kuwait Makes Progress to Build Fourth Olefins Project

Plans for the fourth olefins project in Kuwait are progressing following confirmation of the availability of the necessary feedstock gas and the completion of a market and product feasibility study.

This paves the way for the project's implementation in the Shuaiba Industrial area, according to the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).

In a report published in the local media, KPC said the market and product feasibility study has been finalized after confirming the availability of the required feedstock gas. This is a crucial step in the project evaluation process and preparations for its implementation, it said.

The feasibility of the fourth olefins project was also confirmed in collaboration with Equate through a joint working group, paving the way for the next phases after the completion of the necessary procedures and approvals.

“Final consultations are currently underway with relevant stakeholders to approve the study's findings and authorize the project's implementation,” it added.

In parallel with the consultations regarding the study's approval, site assessment work is being conducted for the olefins project in the Shuaiba Industrial area, in preparation for commencing the necessary site preparation and demolition procedures.

Olefins are basic petrochemicals that form the starting point for the production of a wide range of industrial and consumer products, most notably ethylene and propylene, which are used as feedstocks for the production of polymers and many chemical derivatives.
