EPC Work on Progress on Seawater Treatment Plant in Abu Dhabi

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work is progressing on the large-scale seawater treatment and water supply project in Abu Dhabi, says Orascom Construction. The project’s key components are in the testing and commissioning phase.

The $2.4 billion ‘Project Wave’ is being developed in partnership with Metito, ADNOC and TAQA under a 30-year Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement. Orascom holds a 16.3% share in the project and is also the consortium leader for the EPC scope.

The project will comprise a greenfield seawater nanofiltration plant with a treatment capacity of more than 110 million imperial gallons per day (500,000 cubic metres per day). It also includes seawater intake and outfall facilities, pumping stations, a 75 km water transmission pipeline, and an in-field distribution network of more than 230 km to support reservoir pressure maintenance in the Bab and Bu Hasa fields in Abu Dhabi.
