Vikram Solar to Build BESS Facility in Tamil Nadu

Vikram Solar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a battery energy storage systems (BESS) manufacturing facility.

The Kolkata-based company will invest Rs 15,037 crore in the project, located at the SIPCOT Gangaikondan Industrial Park in Tirunelveli district and is expected to generate employment for around 2,670 people. The agreement was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and Vikram Solar Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary, along with senior government officials and company executives.

The company is developing module manufacturing facilities at Vallam and Oragadam in Kanchipuram district, besides an integrated solar module and cell manufacturing park at Gangaikondan. Earlier this week, Vikram Solar rolled out the first solar module produced at the Gangaikondan facility.

The proposed BESS plant forms part of the company’s strategy to achieve 15 GW-hours of battery energy storage manufacturing capacity by FY30, supporting India’s growing renewable energy and grid storage requirements.
