KOC Awards Multiyear Upstream R&D Agreement to Halliburton

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has awarded Halliburton a multiyear agreement to support the development of the Ahmadi Innovation Valley (AIV), a strategic initiative aimed at accelerating technology development and innovation across Kuwait’s upstream energy sector.

The agreement will support the establishment and development of an upstream research and development (R&D) center at Ahmadi Innovation Valley, which will focus on developing and deploying innovative technologies and engineered solutions to address the evolving challenges of Kuwait’s oil and gas industry.

Under the agreement, Halliburton will work with KOC to develop solutions applicable to brownfield, greenfield, and unconventional oil and gas assets, addressing increasing operational complexity and the specific technical requirements of Kuwait’s upstream sector.

The scope of the program covers applied research, technology development, prototyping, pilot projects, and commercialization, creating an integrated pathway for innovative solutions to progress from initial concepts to field deployment.

Halliburton will leverage its global technology portfolio and established presence in Kuwait to execute a tailored program of projects and engineered solutions. The initiative will also incorporate advanced digital technologies, data analytics, scientific analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI) across the full lifecycle of upstream assets.

The program is expected to help KOC accelerate decision-making, improve asset performance, optimize field operations, and strengthen collaboration between technical teams. The initiative will also contribute to building local technological and engineering capabilities to support the long-term growth of Kuwait’s energy sector.

The Ahmadi Innovation Valley program represents a strategic shift from conventional field services toward the co-creation and development of technologies and innovative solutions tailored to Kuwait’s unique upstream challenges.

The R&D center is envisioned as a permanent platform for applied research and upstream technology development, supporting KOC’s efforts to establish innovation as a core component of the country’s energy sector. The initiative will combine Halliburton’s global technical expertise, digital capabilities, and in-country presence with KOC’s operational knowledge and asset requirements.

According to Halliburton Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Miller, the program reflects the company’s long-term collaboration with KOC and a shared commitment to advancing technology development in Kuwait’s energy sector. The initiative is expected to maximize asset value, improve operational performance, and support the development of innovative solutions for Kuwait’s upstream oil and gas resources.

The agreement further strengthens the long-standing relationship between KOC and Halliburton and reinforces Kuwait’s focus on developing local innovation and advanced technologies to support the future development of its oil and gas industry.
