SEPCO III Achieves Major Milestones on 3.6GW Qassim, Taiba Power Projects

China Energy Engineering Corporation subsidiary SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation announced that the Saudi Qassim EPC Project and Saudi Taiba EPC Project have achieved major construction milestones, with all eight gas turbine units successfully entering full-load operation.

The achievement marks a significant step forward in the delivery of the two large-scale combined-cycle power plants, which have a combined installed generation capacity of 3,600MW.

The Saudi Qassim EPC Project, located in central Saudi Arabia, involves the engineering, procurement and construction of a new 1,800MW combined-cycle gas-fired power plant equipped with advanced H-class gas turbines. The project adopts a configuration comprising one set of three gas turbines driving one steam turbine in combined cycle, in addition to one standalone gas turbine operating in simple cycle mode.

The project is designed with high efficiency and environmental sustainability as key priorities and is expected to strengthen the reliability and stability of Saudi Arabia’s national power grid while supporting growing electricity demand across the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Taiba EPC Project, located in western Saudi Arabia, also comprises the EPC delivery of a new 1,800MW combined-cycle power plant utilizing H-class gas turbine technology with the same generation configuration.

Upon completion, the Taiba power plant is expected to enhance electricity supply to Al Madinah and surrounding regions, while contributing to Saudi Arabia’s broader energy transition and power sector development objectives.

The successful full-load operation of all gas turbine units at both projects represents a major construction and commissioning milestone for SEPCO III as the company continues to expand its footprint in Saudi Arabia’s power infrastructure sector.
