NTPC to Submit its First Nuclear Project Feasibility Study

NTPC is set to submit its first nuclear project feasibility study to the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), marking a major step toward its goal of becoming a standalone nuclear power producer.

The study provides essential data on land acquisition, water availability, and investment requirements. Once the DAE’s Standing Site Selection Committee verifies the technical details, the proposal will be forwarded to the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) for final approval. This initiative is part of NTPC's strategy to achieve two GW of nuclear capacity by 2032. Beyond the initial site, the power major is nearing the completion of feasibility studies in two other states. Notably, the Bihar government has recently granted permission for a study in the Banka district, signaling regional support for nuclear expansion.

With a long-term target of establishing 30 GW of nuclear capacity across 14 states, NTPC is positioning itself as a central player in India’s quest for 100 GW of nuclear energy by 2047. This multi-state expansion involves investments of lakhs of crores and reflects a significant shift toward carbon-free baseload power to support the nation’s energy transition.
