SEPCO III Completes Grid Connection of Wadi Al Shamal Wind Farm Project

Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Company (SEPCO III), has successfully achieved full grid connection of all 67 wind turbine generators at the 500MW Wadi Al Shamal Wind Farm EPC Project in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone toward project completion, handover, and contract closeout.

Located in Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders Province, approximately 1,200 kilometers from Jubail Port, the project comprises the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a utility-scale wind farm equipped with 67 wind turbine generators, each rated at 7.7MW, representing one of the latest generation high-capacity wind turbine technologies.

With a total installed capacity of 500MW, the wind farm forms an important component of Saudi Arabia’s energy transition strategy and supports the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and increase the contribution of renewable energy sources. Upon full operation, the project is expected to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the shift toward a greener and more sustainable energy sector.

Following the successful grid connection of the first turbine, the project team focused on achieving full-capacity operation through coordinated system commissioning, grid integration testing, and performance verification activities. By optimizing resource deployment and construction sequencing, the team successfully completed the grid connection of all 67 wind turbines.

The achievement represents another major milestone for the project, following the successful energization of the project’s substation, grid connection of 63 turbines, and completion of all turbine erection works. The accomplishment demonstrates SEPCO III’s capability in delivering large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects and reinforces its expertise in executing complex overseas EPC contracts.

The Wadi Al Shamal Wind Farm is expected to play a key role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy objectives under Vision 2030 while strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a leading regional market for clean energy investments.
