India Becomes 3rd Largest in Renewable Energy Capacity

India continues to make significant strides in the clean energy transition, reinforcing its commitment to climate action and sustainable growth. According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, India has now achieved a major global milestone by becoming the third-largest country in the world in renewable energy installed capacity.

The achievement highlights the rapid expansion of solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable energy sources across the country. Even more notably, India has already reached 50% of its cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, accomplishing this goal five years ahead of its 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target under the Paris Agreement.

This milestone reflects sustained policy support, large-scale investments, and strong collaboration between government, industry, and stakeholders. By accelerating the adoption of clean energy, India is strengthening its energy security while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.

The achievement lays a strong foundation for a cleaner, greener, and more energy-secure future, positioning India as a key global player in the fight against climate change.
