Petronet LNG Gets Approval for 5 MTPA Expansion at Dahej Terminal

Petronet LNG has received commissioning approval for a five million tonne per annum (MTPA) expansion at its Dahej LNG terminal, marking a significant boost to India’s regasification capacity. The update was shared by Nidhi Kesarwani, Joint Secretary at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

With this approval, the regasification capacity at the Dahej LNG Terminal has increased, strengthening its role as one of India’s key liquefied natural gas import hubs. The expansion raises the terminal’s overall capacity from 17.5 MTPA to 22.5 MTPA, as previously announced by the company on April 1.

The added capacity is expected to enhance LNG storage and handling efficiency while supporting India’s growing demand for cleaner fuel alternatives. The expansion aligns with broader efforts to strengthen the country’s energy security and reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels.

Officials noted that improved infrastructure at Dahej will play a crucial role in meeting industrial and domestic energy needs, especially as natural gas consumption continues to rise across sectors.
