Iraqi Government Approves Solar Energy and Green Projects

The Iraqi government has directed provincial authorities to monitor market prices and prevent hoarding, alongside approving a series of development, energy, and administrative measures. The decisions were taken during a meeting of the Higher Committee for Coordination between Provinces, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

The Prime Minister instructed governors to ensure price stability of essential goods and prevent monopolistic practices, particularly in light of current regional conditions.

Key measures approved include:

· Installation of solar energy systems in 850 government buildings, including 550 funded domestically and 300 through international financing over six years
· Implementation of 101 afforestation projects, including green belts and forest initiatives
· Execution of clean energy and emissions reduction projects under the national initiative, supervised by the Ministry of Environment

Administrative and regulatory actions include:
· Completion of contract transfers to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs following approval of the 2026 federal budget law
· Assignment of local authorities to remove illegal constructions within 90 days at the violator's expense
· Ongoing oversight by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities to enforce compliance.
