IGL to Establish Rs 2,066-cr Solar Power Plant in Rajasthan

Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has approved a renewable energy project to establish a 500 MWp solar power plant in Bikaner district, Rajasthan. The company plans to invest Rs 2,066 crore in this project as part of its strategy to expand into clean energy and achieve its net-zero targets.

The plant will be developed in partnership with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL), a state-run power company. The joint venture will have IGL holding a 74 percent stake, while RVUNL will own the remaining 26 percent. RVUNL will provide land for the project at its upcoming solar park in Bikaner and assist in power transmission.

The project is expected to be completed within 18 months after the formation of the joint venture, which is currently under review by the state Cabinet. Once approved, work on the plant will begin. The funding for the project will come from a combination of debt and equity.

This initiative is part of IGL's plan to build a one GW renewable energy portfolio within the next two to four years. By expanding into clean energy, IGL aims to contribute to India’s sustainability goals and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
