Oil Well Restarted in Ahdab Field Using Horizontal Drilling Tech

In implementation of the directives of Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, to develop the oil industry, the Central Oil Company, in cooperation with the Chinese Oasis Company, was able to restart a stopped vertical oil well in the Al-Ahdab field.

The Director General of the Central Oil Company, Mr. Mohammed Yassin Hassan, explained that the company's technical and administrative staff, in cooperation with the Chinese Oasis Company, succeeded in restarting the ADR3-3ST well using the lateral horizontal drilling technique, reaching large quantities of crude oil with small amounts of associated water at the bottom of the reservoir.

The General Manager praised the efforts made by the company's staff, in cooperation with the Chinese Oasis Company, to restart the aforementioned well. He emphasized that this will open promising prospects for reviving stalled vertical wells by adopting horizontal drilling technology to re-pump oil from wells whose oil is accompanied by varying levels of water. This will contribute to increasing production efficiency and reducing the operating costs associated with treating the associated water. The General Manager emphasized the importance of continuing to adopt modern technologies in oil extraction operations to enhance production.
