Iran Approves 24 Solar Energy Industrial Parks

Iran’s Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization (ISIPO) has approved 24 specialized industrial parks dedicated to solar energy, with four already operational and offering land to investors, according to ISIPO Managing Director Reza Ansari.

Ansari stressed the importance of fostering private sector investment in renewable energy, citing the need for structural changes in energy management to address issues like power and gas outages that hinder production.

He highlighted ISIPO’s efforts to support renewable energy plants and develop the necessary electricity infrastructure to meet industrial demands.

“Solar energy is a critical resource for powering production units in industrial parks,” Ansari stated, noting that Iran’s industrial parks consumed approximately 3,000 MW of electricity this autumn.

Proper planning could help meet this demand through solar solutions. Ansari also described industrial parks as both economic and social institutions established by the people.

Iran’s 870 industrial parks and zones host over 53,000 production units employing about 1.1 million people. The addition of new units is expected to significantly boost employment.

Ansari reiterated ISIPO’s commitment to reducing the energy supply-demand gap through renewable energy initiatives, including solar parks, distributed generation (CHP and DG), and improved transmission infrastructure.

As part of this strategy, ISIPO has identified 124 priority electricity projects, such as extending power lines and constructing substations, in collaboration with provincial planning organizations, regional power companies, and industrial park operators.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish 115 solar zones within existing industrial parks, covering over 5,158 hectares, to enhance renewable energy output.

The announcement was made during a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the Armed Forces’ Economic Resistance Committee, and the Basij Engineers Organization.
