Gujarat Government Approves 1.99 lakh hectares for RE Park

The Gujarat government has granted 'in-principle' approval for 1.99 lakh hectares of land to establish a renewable energy park for green hydrogen production. Governor Acharya Devvrat, addressing the Legislative Assembly, stated that Gujarat aims to become India’s green hydrogen hub, targeting an annual production of 30 lakh tonne.

The state has introduced a land lease policy to facilitate green hydrogen projects using solar, wind, and hybrid energy sources. The MoUs worth over Rs three lakh crore were signed for green hydrogen initiatives. To support production, the state will require around 100 GW of renewable energy.

Also, plans are in place to enhance the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) and GETCO network. Additionally, the state is developing new renewable energy parks with a capacity of 37,000 MW.

Gujarat currently leads India in electricity generation with an installed capacity of 57,664 MW, including 31,483 MW from renewable sources.
