Iraq MoO Announces Inauguration of the New Tanker

The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil affirmed the Ministry's keenness to strengthen the national carrier fleet represented by the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company with new tankers. This came in a speech during a ceremony held on the occasion of the inauguration of the new tanker "AKKD."

 

Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul Ghani, said: “We stand here today in the port of Khor Al-Zubair...to celebrate once again the inauguration of the tanker ‘AKKD’ after the inauguration of the tanker ‘Sumer’ earlier, as the tonnage of the new tanker is (32).” One thousand tons, designated for transporting petroleum products, with a length of (184) meters and a width of (32) metres. A contract was concluded with a specialized Norwegian international company for this purpose.

 

Pointing out that this comes within the plans of the Ministry of Oil to strengthen and develop the role of the national carrier in transporting crude oil and petroleum products to countries around the world. Mr. Abdul Ghani added that the Ministry is studying the method of partnership with specialized international tanker companies to implement joint commercial transportation projects.

 

For his part, the Director General of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company, Mr. Ali Qais, stressed the importance of strengthening the national carrier fleet within the ministry’s plans with new large and medium tonnage tankers, in addition to concluding cooperation contracts with specialized international companies that contribute to the growth of its role, to achieve financial revenues, praising the ministry’s support.
