Tata Power Plans to Reach 15 GW Renewable Capacity by 2027

The second-biggest private generator in India, Tata Power, plans to significantly expand its capacity for renewable energy by 2027, with a target of 15 GW. This expansion plan will span several Indian states and include a combination of wind and solar projects.

In addition to Gujarat, the company is exploring opportunities in other Indian provinces that have significant potential for producing clean power.

The unit of Tata Group, has 4 gigawatts operating renewable electricity capacity and another four gigawatts are under implementation. A tentative agreement was recently signed by the business and the government of Tamil Nadu, allowing the company to invest Rs 708 billion in clean energy projects. The preliminary agreement outlines plan to develop 10 gigawatts of renewable energy projects and increase capacity for manufacturing solar panels to 4.3 gigawatts.

Major corporations like Tata Power, Adani Green Energy Ltd., and Reliance Industries Ltd. are actively working toward India’s goal of nearly tripling its green power capacity to 500 gigawatts by the end of the decade.

As part of its larger energy transition plan, the company intends to increase the percentage of green power in its generating capacity from 38-70 per cent by 2030. By 2045, Tata Power wants to source all of its energy from renewable sources.

Tata Power’s CEO, Praveer Sinha, underlined the company’s thrust to build pumped hydropower projects, a form of energy storage where two water reservoirs are built at different heights and water flowing down from the upper reservoir to the lower helps generate electricity.
