Indian Govt to Add 20,000 MW through Solar Park

Date : Feb 02, 2017

The government will undertake the second phase of the solar park development by adding 20,000 MW capacity in the country.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has drawn up a scheme to establish solar parks across various states, each with a capacity of over 500 MW.

The scheme proposes to offer financial aid by the government to set up solar parks with an aim to facilitate creation of infrastructure to develop solar power projects in terms of transmission and evacuation lines, allocation of land, availability of water, access roads, etc.

The government aims to have a total renewable energy capacity of 175 GW by 2022, for which it plans to implement solar defence schemes, solar parks, a solar scheme for review of economic development of 167 PSUs, solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plants on canal banks and canal tops, solar rooftops, and solar pumps, etc.
