NLC India Postpones Commercial Operation of Neyveli Thermal Power Project

NLC India has pushed ahead of the date of commercial operation of its 1,000 MW (two x 500 MW) lignite-based thermal power project at Neyveli to FY20.

 

The company is implementing the thermal power project as a replacement to the 600 MW Thermal Power Station-I, the oldest lignite-fired thermal power station in the country. Originally, the commercial operation date for Unit-I was in October 2018 and for Unit-II in December 2018.

 

In 2011, the Central government sanctioned the 1,000 MW project with a capital cost of Rs 5,907.11 crore. Later, it was revised to Rs 7,080.41 crore. The company took all efforts to commission the units by July 2018 and September 2018 respectively.

 

The cumulative expenditure incurred in the project up to 31 March 2018 was Rs 5,455.94 crore.
