Jacobs Wins PetroRabigh’s Operational Excellence Project

PetroRabigh, the joint venture of Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemicals, has appointed US-based Jacobs Engineering to provide front-end engineering and design (feed) and project management consultancy (PMC) services for an operational excellence project named ‘bottom of the barrel’, to convert oil residue streams from the crude distillation process into more profitable products, in a bid to extract more commercial value from its operations.

The work on the project will be executed over a period of two years.

“Through this oil upgrade project, we are supporting PetroRabigh … [in meeting] growing demand for transportation fuels,” says David Zelinski, chemical and resources senior vice-president and general manager for Jacobs Energy, EMEA. “The implementation will yield value-added products for use across Saudi Arabia, as well as for export to global markets.”

PetroRabigh manufactures refined products and petrochemicals used in end-products, such as plastics, detergents, lubricants, resins, coolants and several other applications, from its base in the kingdom’s Red Sea city of Rabigh.
