Land Acquisition Cancelled for Nanar Refinery Project

Land acquisition has been canceled for the Nanar Refinery project in Maharashtra. A formal notification will be issued by the Maharashtra government before the election Code of Conduct comes into force.

In April 2018, Saudi Aramco, one of the largest crude producers in the world, had inked a partnership with Indian PSUs to develop USD 44 billion refineries and petrochemical project at Nanar village in the coastal Ratnagiri district.

However, the project has been facing issues from the locals over pollution and loss of land.

The project required around 14,000 acres of land parcel in 14 villages of Ratnagiri and 1,000 acres in two villages of Sindhudurg, the neighboring district.
