Petrol, Diesel Become Costlier on Thursday

After a gap of two consecutive days, state-controlled oil marketing companies hiked retail fuel prices on Thursday. After today's rate revision, petrol became dearer by 6 while the diesel price was raised by 5 paise per liter across metropolitan major of the country. In Delhi, petrol price peaked to Rs 70.39 a liter as against Rs 70.33 on Wednesday while diesel price went up to Rs 65.67 per liter as compared to Rs 65.62 on Wednesday. Citizens in Mumbai have to shell out Rs 76.03 for a liter of petrol following a 6 paise increase over Wednesday’s rate. A liter of diesel costs Rs 68.76 in Mumbai, 5 higher than yesterday's rate of Rs 68.71.

 

Retail petrol price in Kolkata was increased by 6 paise to Rs 72.50, from Rs 72.44 recorded on Wednesday. Diesel prices to have been raised by 5 from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 67.40 a liter. In Chennai, petrol is retailing at Rs 73.06 while diesel price was hiked by 5 paise to Rs 69.37 a liter, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website. In Noida, the petrol price went up 5 paise to Rs 70.30 as compared to Rs 70.25 on Wednesday and diesel price increased to Rs 64.89.

 

It is worth mentioning here is that that retail petrol and diesel in India depend on both international oil price and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. In the international oil market, crude prices went higher on Thursday amid expectations that likely progress in the latest US-China tariff talks would improve the global economic outlook. International Brent crude oil futures in the last session was up 1.9 percent, at USD 63.98 a barrel.
