ADB to Lend USD 75 Million for Water Supply Project

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide loan worth USD 75 million (around Rs 532 crore) for a water supply project in four coastal towns of Karnataka.

The project will ensure uninterrupted water supply in four towns namely, Kundapura, Mangaluru, Puttur and Udupi. An agreement regarding the second tranche of the loan was inked on 27 November 2018.

The funding will also be utilised to improve sanitation infrastructure for Mangaluru town.

The first tranche of the loan is utilised towards improving urban water supply and sanitation services in three other towns -- Byadagi, Davangere, and Harihar.

The programme, approved by ADB Board in 2014, targets to improve urban water resource management in selected river basins in Karnataka through modernisation and expansion of urban water supply and sanitation infrastructure and strengthening institutions to improve water use efficiency, water resource planning, monitoring and service delivery.
