Essar Power will increase its combined operational capacity at its various power generation plants to 6,100 MW from its present 4,590 MW, by 2020.
Essar Power will spend approximately Rs 30,000 crore in the expansion which will be carried out in various stages.
Essar Power’s subsidiary company, Essar Power Gujarat (EPGL), at the coal-fired Salaya thermal power plant situated near Jamnagar in Devbhumi Dwarka district also plans to increase its capacity to 2,520 MW from the existing 1,200 MW in the near future.
The plan to increase the operational capacity in Gujarat will incur an investment of Rs 7,000 crore.
Of the total generation capacity of 6,100 MW, 3,105 MW will be coal-based and the remaining 1,600 MW will be gas-based.
In addition, the company is also constructing a 1,200 MW pit-head plant at Tori in Jharkhand.
