The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) has granted environmental clearance to Jawaharpur Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (JVUNL) for a 2x660 MW coal-based thermal power project near Malwan village, Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.
Of the total 350.07 ha land requirement, 336.32 ha has been purchased, while the remaining land has been notified for acquisition.
The total cost of the project is Rs 8,078.56 crore, while the coal requirement is 5.38 million tpa from Saharpur - Jamarpani coal block in Dumka district, Jharkhand.
The allocation of Chendipada was cancelled vide order from the Supreme Court. Later, Saharpur - Jamarpani coal block was allotted on 13 August, 2015.
However, ToR was re-issued on 9 December, 2015, by the MoEF. The EIA report was updated as per a fresh baseline date, and a fresh public hearing was conducted on 11 May, 2016.
