India: Work Underway on Bengal Concessions’ FSRU Unit

Bengal Concessions is setting up non-jetty-based floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for import, storage and transfer of LNG in the open sea within Kolkata Port Trust.

 

The FSRU unit will import LNG by LNG carriers, transfer of LNG to storage tank of FSRU/FSU, regasification of LNH on FSRU, and transfer of natural gas to landfall point through sub-sea pipeline FSRU will have regasification capacity of about 3.0 million tpa.

 

The project worth Rs 5,100 crore will be implemented in phases. Phase-I includes setting up a regasification terminal at Kukrahati in Purba Medinipur district at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore over 47-acre plot. Phase-II entails setting up a pipeline worth Rs 2,200 crore from Haldia to the India-Bangladesh border, and a smaller city gate station on the outskirts of Kolkata for supply of city gas.

 

In December 2014, the company received coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance. In September 2015, H-Energy Gateway-Excelerate Energy consortium bagged an order for setting up FSRU at the project. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) accorded environment clearance in November 2019.

 

The civil work has been recently commenced. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2022.
