Iraq to Complete Power Link with Kuwait in Mid-2022

Iraq is expected to complete the first phase of a power link with neighboring Kuwait to be part of a joint Gulf power network in mid-2022, said an Iraqi official.

Another project to connect with nearby Jordan will be completed within 26 months and will supply Iraq with 150 MW of electricity before it is expanded to 960 MW in a second project phase, said Iraqi Electricity Ministry spokesman Ahmed Mousa.

Mousa said a government team from neighboring Gulf countries would visit Baghdad soon to discuss the project to integrate Iraq into their common power grid within plans to tackle its persistent post-war power shortages.

“Phase one of the link with Kuwait will be completed in the Summer of 2022..it will provide Iraq with around 500 MW of electricity through Basra…about 86 percent of that phase has been completed,” he said.
