Empower Secures Jumeirah District Cooling Project Contract

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) said it has secured a contract to supply 3,700 refrigeration tons (RT) of district cooling energy for Marsa Al Arab, one of the largest marine tourism and leisure destinations being developed on Jumeirah beaches.

The AED6-billion ($1.63 billion) development, Marsa Al Arab comprises two artificial islands on both sides of Burj Al Arab hotel, spread across a total area of 4 million sq ft. It boasts a host of hotels and luxury villas in addition to restaurants, shops, conference and wedding centres and a yacht club.

According to Empower, the first phase of the district cooling services will start by the end of this year.

This will be done by extending the pipeline network from the plant located in Jumeirah, using special techniques to pass the pipes by digging a tunnel under Jumeirah Road without disrupting the traffic, it stated.

CEO Ahmad bin Shafar said: "Marsa Al Arab is set to provide a matchless tourism experience, which will establish the emirate's position as a global tourism destination through the qualitative investment that Dubai Holding is undertaking in developing marine attractions of the Arabian Gulf coast."

The project combines prestigious luxury residential and hotel buildings, distinctive commercial and leisure amenities, as well as an extensive package of diverse sporting, artistic and cultural facilities, he noted.

Bin Shafar pointed out that Empower's vast experiences will contribute to supporting the efforts of the Jumeirah Group to maintain its leadership in providing global hospitality services.
