Siemens Energy Ships First Compression Train to Aramco’s HUGRS Project

Siemens Energy has shipped the first of 20 locally assembled centrifugal compressor systems to Aramco’s Hawiyah Unayzah Gas Reservoir Storage (HUGRS) project.

The HUGRS project, located 260 kilometers east of Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, includes a gas injection facility that will enable the Kingdom to produce additional gas during the seasonal demand.

Siemens Energy received the order for the compressors from Samsung Engineering, which was awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the entire project. Ten compression trains will be built for the injection portion of the plant, and another ten compression trains will be used for the reproduction portion of the plant.

The compressor trains are being assembled at the Siemens Energy Dammam Hub, in line with the company’s commitment to Aramco’s In-Kingdom Total Value Add program.

“We are very proud of our local workforce at our Siemens Energy Dammam Hub who were able to deliver the first compressor train in a timely manner despite difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mahmoud Sulaimani, Managing Director of Siemens Energy Saudi Arabia.
