Vizag Refinery Modernization Project Sets Record of Heaviest Reactor in the World

The Vizag Refinery Modernization Project, EIL has set a record of being the heaviest LC-Max Reactor in the RUF Unit, known as the heaviest reactor in the world. This has been a record achievement considering design, engineering, and transportation of the reactor with approx. weight of 2313 MT in a single piece.

The shell thickness of this reactor is 256 mm with an Inside Diameter of 4900 mm. Design, Engineering, and Procurement of Cr-Mo-V Reactors have traditionally been one of the major challenges during project implementation in refinery projects. This is due to the fact of the use of exotic advanced metallurgy as well as limited vendors with reliable experience.

Usually, such reactors are having high wall thicknesses and the design code being used is ASME Section VIII Div-2. This is the first LC Max Reactor being implemented in India. Hence, it has been a major boost to Make in India initiative having executed such critical equipment's within India.
